If you want to change a bad habit, “don’t even think about your bad habits,” says Joyce Meyer, minister and author of over 100 books including her latest, Making Good Habits, Breaking Bad Habits.
“Instead, put all of your focus and concentration on making good ones. Because when we think about all the bad habits we’ve got to try and undo. it zaps all of our strength. If we’re going to be successful, we need to learn to focus on the positive.”
Summer is around the corner, forcing us to shed the layers of clothing that we have been hiding behind all
winter, and shed pounds that we have accumulated. Creating a healthy habit to tone up and slim down can be achieved if you keep moving forward, thinking positive, and have reasonable expectations.
Here are 5 tips on how to Create Healthy Habits:
1. Commit to your new habit, feelings aside. Whether you feel like it or not, follow through. A habit can only be created if it is done repeatedly for a period of time, 21-30 days say the experts.
2. Show Up. Getting to your destination many times is half the battle.
3. Think and Speak Positively about yourself (and others for that matter). Don’t beat yourself up if you miss one day. We are human. Never talk down on yourself. On the other hand, don’t put others down to help you feel better. Remember the old saying “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all,” and put it into practice.
4.. Enlist a friend. Sometimes knowing that your buddy is planning on working out with you heightens your level of commitment. At my studio, we offer semi-private lessons; a great way to get the advantage of a personal trainer, share the cost, and hang out with a friend or spouse.
5. Hire a Pilates Instructor. If you are really serious about creating healthy habits, enlist a professional to help you get there. My clients say that being held accountable for showing up at their appointed time is the only way they would ever be able to follow through with a work out program. The investment is worth it.
So, put that first foot forward and start creating healthy habits today!!!
